We will be running our 1st All genre Expressive Dance Championship from Friday 13th starting with a 2-room freestyle then on to Saturday/Sunday 14t-15h January 2023
The date has changed from September 2022 to now January 2023 due to technical issues, venue issues, and clashes with other events.
The original dance championship was due to start in 2020 but in February-March 2020 the country got shut down due to Covid-19 and all plans got put on hold, till now as the years move on we will be happier with dancing, and it’s time for something new.
Now it’s time to up your game and what better way to do this, but to show what you can do on the dance floor and maybe win a prize or two in the process?
The competition is aimed at all dance styles, and all levels and is focused on musicality and musical interpretation, so it will cover Modern Blues, West Coast Swing, Tango, Smooth jive, etc
Starting on Friday evening with a 2-room freestyle in Harlow at our Moot House location starting at 8 pm then going on till Midnight.
Then following on from Friday night, on Saturday the main event is our 1st day of the Dance Competition during the day starting at 1 pm then continuing till around 7 pm
then short recess with background music and then followed by the 2nd freestyle of the weekend running from 8 pm till Midnight. !!
Introducing the Illumination Dance Championship.
This is the first All Expressive dance (non-genre) competition in the UK. It will be based on musicality and musical interpretation and will be run in January 2023 at our regular greenwood park facility. This event will become a regular part of Illumination Dance.
To get the weekend started there will be a freestyle on Friday 15th January 2023 at our Harlow location from 8.00pm and with dancing till 12.00am midnight. This will be a 2-room freestyle with illumination Dance expressive in the main hall and modern jive in the second room. Then the remainder of the weekend will be at our St Albans venue on Saturday and Sunday for the main competition and freestyles.
We will be attracting dancers/spectators and competitors from around the country and the competition will be judged by you the audience with some extra points from our selection of judges.
This is a first for us…
We are looking at having an electronic scoring system that can be used from your mobile phone/tablet/laptop or any other smart mobile device, this will enable you to score your favorite dancers in real-time on a category-by-category basis. We will also cater to the people who may not have smart devices and will be supplying score sheets and pens. The score sheets will be collected on a round-by-round basis. This is so the scores can be collated and published in quick time prior to the start of the next round or category event.
What do we mean by (non-genre) as part of the competition title? Well, any dance style will be accepted. You can change your styling during a dance as many times as you like as the competition is judged on musicality and musical interpretation, not the style of dance you have chosen!
